TableTally

Terms of Service

These Terms of Service govern your use of TableTally and explain the rules, limitations, and responsibilities that apply when you use the app.

The short version

  • TableTally helps you split bills with friends. It's a calculator and tracker — it doesn't move money for you.
  • You need to be 18+ and in the United States to use it.
  • Don't upload other people's stuff without permission, and don't try to break the app or get around its security.
  • Receipts you scan go to a third-party AI service to be read — verify the results before relying on them.
  • If you share a claim link or trip invite, anyone with that link can see what's on it.
  • The service is provided as-is. We're not responsible for disputes between you and the people you split bills with.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of TableTally, the web app at tabletally-app.com (the "Service"). The Service is operated by Fireship LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company ("Fireship," "we," "us," "our").

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

2. Who can use TableTally

You may use the Service only if:

  • You are at least 18 years old, and
  • You are a resident of the United States.

If you do not meet both requirements, you may not use the Service. By using TableTally you confirm that you do.

3. Your account

To use most features, you need an account. You can create one with an email and password, with a magic link sent to your email, or by signing in with a supported third-party identity provider. We require email confirmation before you can use the Service.

You agree to:

  • Provide accurate information when you sign up,
  • Keep your sign-in credentials secure, and
  • Notify us promptly if you believe someone else has accessed your account.

You're responsible for activity that happens under your account. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. What TableTally does — and what it does not do

TableTally helps you record shared expenses, split them between people, and keep track of who owes whom. You can:

  • Create bills manually or by photographing a receipt,
  • Split items evenly or itemize them,
  • Group bills into trips with multiple participants,
  • Share a public link to let others view and claim items on a bill, and
  • Store an optional Venmo handle in your profile so others know how to pay you outside TableTally.

TableTally is not a financial service. Specifically:

  • We are not a money transmitter, payment processor, escrow service, debt collector, or financial institution.
  • We do not move, hold, transfer, or guarantee any funds between you and anyone else.
  • The amounts the Service calculates are informational only. You are solely responsible for actually paying or collecting any amounts owed.
  • We do not verify that any settlement actually happened.
  • We are not responsible for disputes between you and other users about bills, amounts, payments, or settlements.
  • A Venmo handle or any other payment-app username stored in your profile is convenience metadata only. We have no relationship with Venmo or any other payment app, and we don't transmit anything to them.

We do not provide financial, tax, investment, or legal advice.

5. Your content

When you enter information into TableTally — bill items, prices, names of people on a bill, trip names, receipt images, and so on — that information is "your content."

You represent and confirm that:

  • You have the right to enter the names and information of other people you include on bills and trips.
  • Receipt images you upload don't violate anyone else's rights.
  • The content you enter doesn't violate any law.

You retain ownership of your content. You give us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, and process it as needed to provide the Service to you and the people you share it with.

We don't review or verify the accuracy of the amounts you enter. The numbers TableTally produces are only as good as what you put in.

6. Receipt scanning (AI feature)

If you upload a receipt for scanning, the image is sent to a third-party AI service to extract the line items, prices, tax, tip, and total.

  • The receipt-scanning feature is provided as-is. The AI may misread, omit, or invent items.
  • You are responsible for verifying the extracted information before relying on it.
  • Don't upload receipts that contain information you're not authorized to share.

The third-party AI provider processes the image under its own terms and may temporarily retain it. We don't keep the image after processing.

7. Public links: claim links and trip invites

Two features make data available to people through a link:

  • Claim links for bills. When you share a claim link, anyone who has the link can view the bill — items, amounts, participants' first names, and totals — and claim items on it. They don't need a TableTally account.
  • Trip invite codes. Anyone with the link can see the trip name and member list, and can join the trip if they're signed in.

You decide who to give those links to. By sharing a link, you accept that the information becomes available to anyone in possession of it.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any illegal purpose, or to harass, threaten, or abuse anyone,
  • Use the Service to launder, conceal, or disguise transactions,
  • Upload content you don't have the right to share,
  • Try to access another user's account or data, or to circumvent the Service's security or row-level access controls,
  • Scrape, copy, or reverse-engineer the Service,
  • Send unsolicited messages through any feature of the Service, or
  • Interfere with the Service or the servers and networks that run it.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.

9. Changes to the Service

We may add, remove, or change features at any time. If we make a change that materially limits the Service, we'll do our best to give you reasonable notice.

We don't guarantee that the Service will always be available, error-free, or uninterrupted.

We may add new features in the future. Any new feature that meaningfully changes how your information is handled — for example, adding payment processing — will require an updated version of these Terms with prominent notice to you before it takes effect.

10. Termination

You can stop using TableTally at any time. You can delete your account and the data associated with it through the in-app deletion flow or by emailing Questions@tabletally-app.com.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if we believe you've violated these Terms, if doing so is necessary to protect the Service or other users, or if we're required to do so by law.

If your account is terminated, sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination — including disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, governing law, and miscellaneous provisions — will survive.

11. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FIRESHIP DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AND UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION.

We don't warrant that any calculation, AI-extracted item, or other output of the Service is accurate or complete, or that the Service will meet your needs.

12. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FIRESHIP AND ITS OWNERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE — EVEN IF WE'VE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

OUR TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS ($100).

These limitations apply regardless of the legal theory of the claim. Some states don't allow limits on certain damages — in those states, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

We are specifically not responsible for disputes between you and any other user about amounts owed, payment, or settlement.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Fireship LLC and its owners, employees, and agents from any claim, demand, loss, or expense, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or related to:

  • Your use of the Service,
  • Content you submit to the Service, including names of other people you add to bills and any receipts you upload,
  • Your violation of these Terms, or
  • Your violation of any law or any third party's rights.

We reserve the right to take over the defense of any claim subject to this section, at our expense, and you agree to cooperate with us in any defense.

14. Governing law and venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page and notify you by email. Continuing to use the Service after the new Terms take effect means you accept the changes. If you don't agree with a change, please stop using the Service and delete your account.

16. Miscellaneous

  • Entire agreement. These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the complete agreement between you and Fireship LLC about the Service, and they replace any earlier agreement.
  • Severability. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect.
  • No waiver. If we don't enforce a part of these Terms, that doesn't waive our right to enforce it later.
  • Assignment. You can't assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign them in connection with a sale or merger.
  • Force majeure. We're not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
  • Headings. Section titles are for convenience only.
